As we prepare to come together in Wellington on 16–17 August for this year’s conference, I’ve been thinking a lot about connection - the way we lift each other up, share our stories, and continue to grow together in this unique work we do.

Our theme this year, Engage, Enlighten, Enrich, really hits home. It reflects not just what we aim to bring to our ceremonies, but what we gain from being part of this community. The programme is packed with inspiration, from keynote sessions on cultural safety and ritual activism, to practical presentations covering weddings, marketing, and emerging tech.

This conference also marks a significant change for our Association. After six years on the National Executive, and three as President, Rachel Clarke is stepping down.

Rachel has led with courage, warmth, and a strong vision. She’s brought us through some big transitions, always keeping our values at the heart of her work. Thank you, Rachel - we’re so grateful for everything you’ve given.

We’re also saying goodbye to two other incredible Executive members.

Helen O’Shaughnessy, who has poured years of care, time and energy into the development of VCANZ - your contribution has been enormous.

And Spike (Elaine) Spearman, whose mahi in the communications space and tireless efforts alongside Brenda Chapman to re-energise the Auckland branch have made such a difference.

So please - come to Wellington. Let’s celebrate, learn, connect, and acknowledge those who’ve helped shape our journey. You make this community what it is!

(On a side note, this is the third Celebrants Aotearoa monthly Wrap in its new format. Please keep an eye out on your emails for a survey as we welcome all feedback and also want to make sure you're enjoying it.)
