Congratulations to our Auckland-based celebrant Sheryl Mungall for an award she has received in recognition of her services to the community.
On Wednesday evening, Sheryl was presented with the Certificate of Appreciation by Minister of Internal Affairs Brooke Van Velden (as seen in the photo with Sheryl) for 29 years of service as a Justice of the Peace.
Here are a few things you may not know about our wonderful Sheryl:
- Sheryl is the longest-serving celebrant in New Zealand, having been marrying couples for over 33 years. She was appointed as a marriage celebrant in 1997 by the Department of Internal Affairs and has since married over 4,000 couples.
- She is a founding member of CANZ (1999)
- In 2016, she was recognised as a Life Member for her contribution to CANZ members through mentoring, training, serving twice on the executive, and the local Auckland committee.
- She designed and tutored a training course for new celebrants, named The Complete Professional, to help them set up.
- She has been a presenter at CANZ conferences and education forums.
- In terms of her own professional development, she holds a certificate in celebrant studies from AUT and has achieved VCANZ status on two occasions. VCANZ is our professional standing as a celebrant, and it means that Sheryl is one of the top celebrants in New Zealand.
We are so very proud of Sheryl and for her services to the community.
