In this interactive workshop our presenters Vicky Ellison and Amiria Anglem will lead us in extending our understanding and use of Te Reo Mäori, and Tikanga relevant to our mahi as Celebrants.

Regardless of where we are at in our Te Reo journey, in breakout groups, we will be encouraged to build on our confidence, language knowledge, extend understanding, increase vocabulary, and correct pronunciation in using Te Reo Mãori.

Along the way, we will reflect on ways we might bring Te ao Mäori more into our ceremonies, and consider the use of Karakia, Mihimihi and Tikanga in relation to ritual and ceremony.

About the Presenters

Vicky Ellison and husband Eddie were educated at a time when te reo Māori was thin on the ground, so their language learning began as adults. They chose Māori medium education for their five children and feel proud that their 17 mokopuna all have te reo Māori in their lives.

Vicky has been a celebrant for 15 years and always tries to include the language and culture of the families she is helping in her ceremonies. Te reo Māori forms part of many ceremonies she creates.

Amiria Anglem is a busy Mum of three children, all who attend Kura Kaupapa Māori.  Amiria runs her own business, TeHao Services, which is a teaching and consultancy organisation with the aspiration of a bright future for te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
